Cloverdale man charged for allegedly dehorning goat with saw and castrating animal with cable tie

A man has been charged after allegedly trying to castrate a baby goat with cable tie — and attempting to cut its horns off with a saw.

An RSPCA inspector attended the property of a 45-year-old man from Cloverdale, where they allegedly discovered a 3-month-old goat with a black cable tie around its scrotum on January 2.

It is alleged the man said he was trying to castrate the animal after finding the method on the internet.

“The accused also told the inspector he had dehorned the goat by using a saw,” an RSPCA spokesperson said.

“He said he made a paste of aspirin and rubbed it on the goats’ horns for the pain.”

“The inspector seized the goat and transported him to the Animal Care Centre in Malaga where vets immediately noted a strong odour of necrotic tissue.”

The animal underwent emergency surgery to remove its testicles before it was confirmed its scrotum and right side of its face were infected.

“The goat was suffering severe pain from the castration attempt and subsequent necrosis,” the RSPCA says. “He was also suffering from his horns being cut off too short, which exposed soft tissue and caused bleeding.

It is alleged the 45-year-old caused unnecessary harm by trying to sterilise the goat before dehoring the animal without the intervention of a veterinarian.

He will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on June 7, facing an animal cruelty charge.
