It has been another week of strong prices, with heavy lambs in short supply.

Processor grids remain “publicly” unchanged, but little is being sold at these numbers.

Saleyards have offered better value in recent weeks and, as a result, store lambs above 36kg have traded at $3.50.

On the east coast, lamb prices have been somewhat more stable, but continue to trade at a $1 or more premium to WA.

Mutton is also stronger on the east coast, with TFI Tamworth at $8.60.

The real issue WA is facing is the decline in processor competition.

Minerva’s Tammin abattoir closed last week, as has the Bigfoot Meats abattoir in Gingin.

If or when they will reopen is unknown.

Both plants killed for multiple buyers (butchers and exporters).

Cattle markets have also been active.

There has been a flurry of export orders out of the east, with high grade Brahman steers bid to $3.30.

All other types are bid at a discount but there is no shortage of boats in the near future.

CURRENT WA FEEDER LAMB BIDS WITH AGORA:

· XB store lambs: min 34kg $3.40

· Merino lambs: min 30kg $2.90

· Merino lambs: min 36kg $3.30

· Shedder lambs: min 34kg $3.50
