Home and Away RECAP: The body is identified as none other than con artist Susie McAllister
The scriptwriters aren’t exactly one of subtlety but just in case the blazing sirens weren’t obvious enough, about half the cast announces a “body” has been found at various points throughout the episode.
The police have cordoned off an area and have a makeshift tent to keep the aforementioned body away from the many prying eyes, none more so than John’s who is doing his utmost to assert his authority, even dropping he’s ex navy, which is news to me.
As we know, news travels fast in the bay and there’s already a lot of people huddled around by the time Dean hurries down and demands answers from the new cop, Cash Newman.
The internet has spoken and the consensus is that the “hot cop” is indeed hot.
It’s also a fantastic name and I haven’t spotted a ring on his finger so he’s certainly topped the Summer Bay most eligible bachelor list which was in dire need or a new leader because at one stage John, yes John Palmer was considered hot property. It turned out that Susie’s intentions weren’t genuine, but he was on tinder for old people and getting matches.
Anyway back to the body.
Since Mac has been missing for “four days”, as Dean points out, it’s the obvious choice.
Dean doesn’t waste any time throwing his “mate” Ari under the bus since Mac “hasn’t been right since the day that you dumped her”, often “hooking up with randoms. Maybe this last one was the wrong one?”
She is not dead.
“You’re not dead,” Dean says several times to drill in that she is not dead after much time hypothesising worst case scenarios about her being dead.
“I thought you were dead.”
Mac has awakened to her self destructive ways and is moving out so she doesn’t feel to need to “push back” at Dean smothering her.
As the day draws on people are growing restless and John takes it upon himself to find out who the body is.
Hey matey (mate is thrown around a lot tonight) what do you think we’re dealing with here?,” John says to the hot cop.
“Accidental drowning, a bit of foul play?”
Luckily for Cash he doesn’t have to warrant that question with an answer because they’ve got the ID and it’s Susie McAllister.
“Oh ma gawd it’s Susie,” John exclaims is a very ocker accent.
“I don’t understand I was just talking to her the other day.”
“I’m not going to shed any tears over her that’s for sure,” Justin pipes up.
Look, he’s not wrong. Susie wasn’t in the show for that long so we didn’t exactly have an attachment to her, but his sentiment is met by eye rolls given he’s in “classic denial” about his addiction and everyone, including Leah, is scared of what he’s capable of…possibly murder?
Nothings out of the question for Justin anymore.
“It’s like a fell in love with one person and I don’t’ even recognise who this person is,” Leah says.
Although being in jail is about the strongest alibi one could have, so the murder would have happened before that.
It’s unlikely that Susie killed herself. She’s successfully conned a lot of people out of money and is probably living her best life somewhere.
Which leaves John.
Well Stephen Something from the internet setting John up to take the fall because he’s been gaslighting as Susie, using her phone, while pretending he’s on team John and Leah.
In other news Mia doesn’t have the “stomach” for a dead body.
It could be something dragged up from her past but as it turns out, she’s pregnant to the delight of Ari.
