Ellenbrook father moves to protect son after mugging
An Ellenbrook father has taken an extraordinary step to keep his son safe after the teenager was mugged and threatened with a blowtorch.
DJ Butler is just 14 years old and living in fear.
He was attacked by two teenage boys, punched and robbed just 500m from his home.
“He waved a blowtorch in my face, that’s when I got off my bike, that’s what scared me,” DJ said.
They took his bike, phone and wallet.
“It’s ridiculous, he’s too scared to go to school now, walk to school and go home from school,” his father Danny said.
Instead of being in a classroom today, DJ was in a court room filing for restraining orders against the two boys.
“Save our kids, protect our kids, that’s what I’m all about is protecting my son,” Mr Butler said.
The restraining orders still have to be handed to the boys but there’s one problem, police can’t find them to do that. They have been spotted around town but have not been home in days.
Four months ago Ellenbrook residents branded their suburb a “warzone”, saying they were under siege from kids as young as five.
DJ has his bike again but says it’ll be a long time before he feels safe enough to ride it alone.
