Tickets are expected to sell fast for the Margaret River Ultra Marathon after the first lot of entries were released this week.

Organisers Rapid Ascent said the Margaret River Ultra had become one of Australia’s most in-demand races, with the eighth edition planned for May 10 and 11 next year.

Limited places due to permit considerations meant the appetite from the country’s trail-running and marathon community was expected to be high.

Multiple options for the event include the 80km ultra marathon for solo runners and relay teams of two-to-five members covering 10-20km each, while the 42km trail marathon option introduced last year was limited to solo runners only.

Rapid Ascent general manager Sam Maffett said the organisers were always “blown away” by the interest in the event.

“We feel overwhelmingly honoured to have created such an event,” he said.

“The enthusiasm and joy, camaraderie and spectacular scenery on course are no doubt all part of the allure.

“To see people from all walks of life come together to conquer and achieve their ultra marathon goals is truly inspiring.”

Howard Park Wines was the official finish point for the marathon and would also host a 2km children’s run on the second day of the event.
