An urgent recall has been issued for a popular supermarket product over concerns of chemical contamination.

Food Standards Australia said ethylene oxide — which can cause illness or injury if consumed — had been discovered in Indya Foods’ Everest Fish Curry Masala 50g.

Affected packets of the spice blend have a best before date of 09/25.

The product is sold at independent retailers in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
