Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association round 10: League leaders Chapman Valley, Pumas prove too strong
Trades got over the line in their first win of the season against Stateside on Monday night, which kicked off round 10 of Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association action.
Stateside’s scoring was led by Tyrone Papertalk Jr and Kobe Simpson with 17 points a piece, however it was not enough, with spirited performances by Trades’ Jake Baker (22 points) and Max De San Miguel (21 points) helping to secure a maiden victory, 76 - 64.
Tuesday night’s match saw third-placed Pumas handing second-placed Olympians their second loss of the season, proving to be too strong 103-92..
Olympians’ Isaac Smith chalked up 23 points with teammate Campbell Surtees adding 20. Pumas’ Liam Hunt led the way for his team with an impressive 33-point display. William Galvin also chipped in with a strong 24-point bag.
The last game in the men’s round on Wednesday night had league leaders Chapman Valley face off against middle of the table Hawks.
Hawks’ Theo Bennett led the way for his side with 16 points but it wall all Chapman Valley, proving why they are sitting pretty at the top of the table.
Valley’s Russell Hurst scored 29 points in a dominant display, alongside teammate Mathew Wundenberg with 24 points.
In the end, Chapman Valley won 81-64 over the Hawks.
In the women’s league, Monday night saw Stateside take on Trades, and Stateside’s Abbie McDonald shone bright with an impressive 21-point performance, leading her team to a 65-55 win.
Trades’ scoring duties fell in the lap of Kayley King with 20 points.
Tuesday’s fixture featured top of the ladder Pumas up against last placed Olympians.
Pumas’ Tia Morgan chalked up a strong 16-point display, while Sophie Maines led the scoring for Olympians with eight points.
Pumas were too strong for Olympians, winning 52-26.
