Great Southern Zone Schools Tennis Classic undefeated team Saint Patrick’s School to compete in Perth

Saint Patrick’s School were undefeated at the Great Southern Zone Schools Tennis Classic earlier this month, propelling them into Perth’s regional competition together with runners-up Kojonup District High School.
A spectacular Academy Plate was held at the Katanning Country Club on March 10 where six primary schools from Kojonup, Katanning, Broomehill, Tambellup, and Gnowangerup tore up the tennis court.
Saint Patrick’s players Lesley Flowers, Maggie Bushell, Damien Chambers and Hudson Justins led the round robin games alongside Kojonup’s Ollie Hornby, Taj Wells, Chelsea Zadow and Zoe Milne.

Both teams entered the final game undefeated, making for an intense play-off.
From the four singles matches played, two Saint Patrick’s competitors took a comfortable win while their teammates fought in a tiebreaker resulting in only one singles victory for Kojonup.
The teams were shot for shot during the mixed doubles, Kojonup and Saint Patrick’s took a win each, resulting in a 2-4 triumph for Saint Patrick’s.
The two point score difference matched last years results where again Kojonup came runners-up but to the Broomehill-Tambellup team.
Despite the final game outcome, the two top sides of the day will represent the Great Southern Zone in the Champion Schools Tennis Classic at the State Tennis Centre on March 21.

Gnowangerup District High School and St Bernard’s Catholic Primary School tied for third place on the ladder.
Event organiser Andrea Rundle said the tournament is “all about giving kids the opportunity to play on a bigger stage”.
“It is a great opportunity for primary students to represent their school to play against quality opposition and have the opportunity to compete at the State Tennis Centre against other regional finalists,” Rundle said.
“Congratulations must go to all players who represented their school with pride and displayed excellent sportsmanship.”
Rundle thanked Radu Vaidean and Marisa Gianotti from Tennis West who assisted with the preparation of the event.
