Call for community support as Kalgoorlie Primary School’s 125th anniversary looms

Kalgoorlie Primary School is calling on the community to help them celebrate their 125th anniversary with a school fete next year. Principal Miriam Thomas said the school was looking for food vendors, market stallholders and local entertainers to join the anniversary celebrations on May 15, 2021. “Our plan is to have an afternoon fete, and invite stallholders to come along and be a part of it all, and have the community come and join us for our celebrations,” she said. Ms Thomas said she would like to see Kalgoorlie-Boulder-based organisations get in touch about running activities or crafts at the event. The fete will welcome past and present students to celebrate the school’s opening in 1896. During the event the school will open a time capsule created on the 100th anniversary in 1996, which was filled with works by students at KPS at the time. “I wasn’t at the school at the time but to celebrate the centenary, a time capsule was put together and I believe it’s got children’s work and some other items in it, but it’s still a bit of a mystery as to what’s exactly in there,” she said. “I think for us being the oldest school in Kalgoorlie is pretty important and I hear that when we had our 100-year celebration, it was a fantastic celebration with so many wonderful things.” Hoping to have as many stalls as can fit on the school grounds, Ms Thomas said interested stallholders and entertainers could contact the school to express their desire to participate.
