Diorites in control during comfortable preliminary final triumph over Boulder

Mines Rovers have booked their place in the Goldfields Football League’s colts decider on the back of a workmanlike victory over Boulder by 19 points, 10.11 (71) to 7.10 (52), in last Saturday’s preliminary final.

The Diorites, who finished five games and percentage ahead of the Tigers in second place, did their best work early — leading by 12 points at the initial break and piling on 6.8 to half-time.

Boulder trailed by 28 points at the long break but they fought the game out valiantly and outscored their rivals in the second half, five goals to four.

Mines Rovers, however, had a decisive edge in firepower — underpinned by two goals each to Lucas Clark, Zach Smith and Alex Falla.

Chase Stubbs, Kasey Murison, Angus Lavender and Brodie Sayers contributed a goal each.

Boulder were without a multiple goal kicker.

Mines Rovers will now meet Kalgoorlie in Saturday’s grand final at Sir Richard Moore Sports Centre, starting at 10.15am.

Boulder booked their place in the reserves grand final after they dispatched Railways last weekend by 53 points, 10.15 (75) to 3.4 (22).

Railways were within five points at half-time but the Tigers essentially put the game out of their reach with a hard-running third term that produced five goals.

Ricky Dawes kicked three goals for Boulder, who will meet Mines Rovers in Saturday’s grand final at 12.30pm.
