Two people are fighting for life following a horror multi-vehicle crash on a major Queensland highway.

Emergency services rushed to the Bruce Highway near Bloomsbury, between Mackay and Proserpine about 3pm Thursday after two trucks and a car collided.

The crash is understood to have involved four people, with a man in his 70s suffering from severe life-threatening head injuries.

Queensland Ambulance Services said the man had to be extracted from his vehicle.

A man in his 20s has also suffered a life-threatening head injury, as well as severe arm and hip injuries.

The younger man also had to be pulled from his vehicle after he was trapped for “some time”.

Two rescue helicopters and paramedics were rushed to the scene, with the remaining two people involved in the crash in a stable condition.

Queensland Police has closed the highway in both directions while emergency services work to clear the scene and treat the injured people.

Police and fire crews are also on the scene, with one or more of the vehicles rolling in the collision.
