Busselton’s Kyle Sayer crowned Speedway Sedans Australia Production Sedan WA champion

Busselton’s Kyle Sayer has been crowned the Speedway Sedans Australia Production Sedan Western Australian Champion at the Nickol Bay Speedway after crossing the finishing line less then a second ahead of Beau Riley.

The WA production State Title event was held at the Karratha venue over the June long weekend, with practices and heats taking up the Friday and Saturday evening before Sunday’s feature race.

Forty-seven racers lined up for the weekend, with 22 competing in the 40-lap A main feature.

Sayer secured a front row start on the back of a dominant performance in the heats and got the jump on pole sitter Beau Riley to take the lead.

Karratha’s own Jack McAuley made his way into second place by lap 11 and was battling for the lead before he suffered a flat right rear tyre and retired during a reg flag stoppage on lap 24.

Sayer continued on his way, holding about a one-second gap going into the dying stages of the race before yellows were waived when Jayden McCuis suffered a flat rear tyre and retired along with Hayden Norman and Lindsay McAuley.

Green flags were waived with three laps of racing to go and Sayer held off strong opposition from Ridley to cross the line in first by just 0.651, while Geraldton’s Ashley Bake rounded out the top three.

Benny Curtin crossed the line in fourth ahead of Kane McDiarmid and Drew Ogle while Josh Fraser, Jake Hoath, Barry Rose and Tylar Main rounded out the top 10.

McDiarmid was later disqualified during post-race scrutineering.

The victory crowned Sayer the SSA Production Sedan Western Australian Champion. He also recorded the fastest lap of the meet with a 20.301 second lap time.

Meanwhile Jordan McGinnis took out the opening B main race after leading all 20 laps and Jhye Kent won the second B grade feature ahead of Derby’s Paul Squires and Sam McAuley.

Next year’s SSA Production Sedan Western Australian State Title will be held at the Tyrepower Manjimup Speedway.
