A consistent performance by the Wickham Wolves was enough to give them an 18-point win against Karratha Falcons on Friday, despite a late surge from their opponents.

Playing away at Bulgarra Oval, Wickham continued their recent good form to record a 10.17 (77) to 8.11 (59) victory against the Falcons and remain undefeated so far this season.

They kicked 4.5 (29) to Falcons’ 1.2 (8) in the first quarter and had extended that lead to 6.10 (46) to 2.4 (16) by half-time. But the Falcons kicked into gear in the third term as they rallied to make more of an impact on the scoreboard.

Upping the pressure on the Wolves and slowing down play, they managed to keep pace with their opponents during the quarter.

Falcons built on that momentum in the final term when players found the space to adopt a more free-flowing playing style that had them looking like a different team.

By midway through the quarter they had reduced the margin to just seven points.

But Wickham never lost focus and took control when it counted, kicking the last two goals of the game to create a comfortable winning buffer.

Wolves’ forward Jeremy Regan had a stellar game, booting five goals for the winning side.

Falcons’ best scorer was Bradley Ryder, who scored two.

Earlier that evening, theclubs’ reserves match was a nailbiter in which the Wolves prevailed by one point, 10.7 (67) to 10.6 (66).

After trailing 2.3 (15) to 5.5 (35) at half-time, Falcons launched a remarkable second-half comeback to almost close the margin between the teams, even as Wolves continued to gain, but fell slightly short before the siren.

The game’s leading goal kickers were Wolves’ Kohan Flann (five) and Falcons’ Brett McCormack (four).
