Eagles soar over Tigers in Tom Price footy double-header

An eight-goal haul to big forward Nikkalus Woods helped the Townsite Eagles to a 128-point thrashing over the Tigers at Clem Thompson Oval last weekend.

The ladder leaders took a few minutes to click into gear but once the did they scored freely.

Three unanswered goals were booted in the opening 15 minutes before the Tigers pared two back towards the end of the first quarter through Joel Aberle and Michael Turrell.

Woods proved a hard task for the Tigers defence, managing to stand his ground to claim almost every contested mark which came his way.

The second quarter was all Eagles as they locked the ball in their attacking half.

Woods added another two to his tally and Rhys Cooyou bagged a double to bring the Eagles in to half-time leading 69-15.

Some fleet-footed running from David Walley and Matthew Fenn enabled the Tigers to finally get into attack in the third term but it counted for little as a ruthless Towns defence shutdown any movement into the 50.

Having been hounded for three terms, the Tigers defence was running on empty in the last quarter and the floodgates opened.

Cooyou, Woods, Liam Hansen and Stephen Tormey all kicked two goals each, resulting in the final score blowing out to 23.27 (165) to 5.7 (37).

The result has the Eagles looking good for the 2018 minor premiership. They sit two games clear on top of the ladder on a huge goal difference with five games to go.

The Tigers sit in third spot, eight points behind the Saints.
