Fast-start Kats too good for Sharks at Windy Ridge
Karratha Kats consolidated their second spot ranking on the North Pilbara Football League ladder with a 52 point win over the Dampier Sharks on Friday.
The Karratha team put in a strong performance playing away at Dampier’s Windy Ridge Oval to defeat the home team 13.14 (92) to 6.4 (40) and get another game clear of third-placed rivals the South Hedland Swans, who lost against Wickham this round.
Kats did most damage early on, putting in a consistent scoring effort to create a 11.5 (71) to 1.2 (8) margin by half-time.
The Sharks struggled to make an impact in the first half and went scoreless in the second, but found their feet in the last two terms.
In the third quarter they kept pace with the Kats and outscored them in the last term, when they also prevented their opponents from scoring a goal, but were unable to make up the difference so late in the game.
Karratha had a bigger win in the night’s reserves match, where the ladder-leading Kats reserves thrashed the Sharks 13.16 (94) to 2.3 (15).
The visitors started strongly and were able to keep that momentum going throughout the match, while Dampier was scoreless in the first quarter but managed to get some numbers on the scoreboard as the game wore on.
The result reinforces the Kats’ top spot on the reserves ladder but sends the Sharks to the bottom, below the Port Hedland Rovers on percentage.
