It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Ashburton.

From decorating homes with festive lights to a float parade, there are several events set to be held in the Pilbara town this Christmas.

Residents can take part in either the inland or coastal Christmas Lights Competition, with generous cash prizes.

The coastal competition covers Onslow and has a $250 prize, while the inland contest includes the towns of Pannawonica, Paraburdoo and Tom Price, with a judge’s choice award worth $300.

Other events across the region include the Onslow Float Parade on December 12, with locals asked to create a quirky Dr Suess-inspired float; and the Pannawonica Christmas Carols.

Ashburton Shire president Kerry White said she relished the chance to bring the community together.

“2020 has not been without its challenges. It is with pleasure the Shire of Ashburton is able to facilitate events that celebrate the things that truly matter — family, friendship and harmony,” she said.

“I encourage all of our community members to extend warmth and hospitality to all, particularly those who are spending this time of year away from their loved ones.”
