Girl, 14, on bail after “shocking” Wickham stabbing

A 14-year-old girl is facing a charge of aggravated grievous bodily harm after allegedly stabbing her older sister through the arm in Wickham last night.

In what Roebourne police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Tom Daly described as an “argument gone bad”, the two girls are alleged to have had a disagreement which escalated into threats of violence at a Wickham home, shortly before midnight.

During the argument the 14-year-old allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed the older girl, with the knife penetrating through her right forearm.

The 21-year-old woman was rushed to Nickol Bay Hospital and is expected to be transferred to Perth for specialist treatment by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Sen. Sgt Daly described the injury as “shocking” and said doctors believed the wound had resulted in severed tendons, nerves and vessels and caused some motor dysfunction in the woman’s arm and hand.

Police released the girl on bail with protective conditions and she is due to appear in the Karratha Children’s Court on February 5.
