Hancock Gorge hiker rescued in the Karijini National Park after falling into Reagan’s Pool

A hiker has been rescued from Hancock Gorge in the Karijini National Park after falling into Reagan’s Pool which resulted in a seven-hour operation.

Tom Price and Newman State Emergency Services were called out to the popular gorge at about 12pm on Sunday after receiving calls from the Karijini rangers station.

The man fell 10 metres into Reagan’s Pool after slipping from a waterfall resulting in a sprained ankle.

Eight SES volunteers assisted with the rescue, bringing with them a helmet, gloves, boots and harness to get the man out of the gorge.

SES central Pilbara coast district officer Darren Morgan reminded tourists to take care during their hikes.

“Don’t put yourselves in a position where you might hurt yourself because we are relying on volunteers to rescue you,” he said.

The area is deemed as a class six restricted area and hikers require helmets, harnesses and roping as a minimum for entry.
