The Karratha BMX Club together with the Burrup Mountain Bike Club recently held the inaugural Karratha Bike Festival to celebrate Bike Week.

Sponsored by West Cycle, the Department of Transport and local bike shop Scott Cycles, this cycling extravaganza aimed to encourage all within the community to try out the sports of BMX and mountain biking.

Seven events were held over six days providing opportunities for riders of all ages to learn skills and have fun with experienced club coaches.

To conclude festival, event organisers had planned a shindig with a community sausage sizzle, DJ, dirt jumps, bike maintenance sessions and bike games and activities, but unfortunately plans were put on hold due to Cyclone Veronica spoiling the fun.

The season is set to start for both clubs with the Burrup Mountain Bike Club commencing round one on April 6 and BMX starting on March 29.
