Indigenous company Greentree Ngaliya Civil and Fencing awarded fencing contract for Pluto workers camp

A local Indigenous company has been awarded the contract to install the fencing around a 2500 bed accommodation village in Karratha. Greentree Ngaliya Civil and Fencing were announced as the recipients of a contract late last month to install 1100 posts with close to four kilometres of fencing. The new camp, located in Gap Ridge and built by Bechtel, will support the construction workforce requirements for Woodside’s proposed Pluto Train 2 development. Bechtel awarded the contract to build the Construction Accommodation Village (CAV) to Perth-based business ATCO in April 2020, with initial works commencing in November 2021. Greentree supervisor Dan Butler said his team was proud to be a part of the ATCO team working on the project. “As a Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation recognised business, we are pleased to be one of the many local businesses engaged in the early works for Pluto Train 2. Our team is working hard to safely deliver the fencing scope,” he said. Project manager Aaron Francis said ATCO was working to ensure benefits from the CAV construction activities flowed back into the region through procurement and employment opportunities. Bechtel social performance manager Jo Winters said Bechtel was looking forward to continuing to invest in local businesses and people as the Pluto Train 2 Project progresses. “Bechtel has a long history of partnering locally, and it is an ethos we take with us wherever we work. Our team has been engaging with suppliers around upcoming project opportunities and will continue to do so,” she said. The development application for the Construction Accommodation Village went before the Kimberley/Pilbara/Gascoyne Joint Development Assessment Panel on December 13, 2019. The camp will operate only for the construction of Pluto Train 2 and once construction is complete, Bechtel would be required to remove the CAV and remediate the site.
