The June 15 WA Day Festival was a hit for Karratha locals — with droves of families soaking up live music and a spectacular drone show.

It was a mix of colour and culture when hundreds participated in an array of activities at Hampton Oval in Dampier to celebrate all things that make WA special.

There were food vendors, mechanical rides including a bucking bull, and a smorgasbord of live music for the ages.

DJ Britty’s set got people up and jiving, while Chris Murphy serenaded the crowd.

Virtual reality also made an appearance at the Pilbara festival, with attendees able to explore WA’s landscape through the emerging technology.

Punters also took turns at colouring in stations, bouncy castles and an array of sideshow games.

The festival kicked off at 4pm before families took to the grass later in the evening to watch the drone show.

Major sponsor logos from BHP and Lotterywest were among the dazzling displays before some of WA’s best-loved animals morphed into place as people young and old were enthralled by the moving spectacle in the sky.

There was even time for the drones to form an Oscar trophy for the Pilbara crowd.

The free event saw countless families who call the Pilbara home attend. And after a successful event, there is plenty of excitement already brewing for next year’s festival.
