Karratha community recognises top citizens on Australia Day

The City of Karratha community’s most outstanding citizens have been recognised at an Australia Day awards ceremony this morning.
Six awards acknowledging significant local contributions ranging from event of the year to best community spirit were given out at the Karratha Leisureplex.
Blue Beanies Project co-founder, Youth Affairs Council of WA director and foster carer Sandra Spadanuda won the day’s major award of citizen of the year, while Blue Beanies mentor and role model Pansy Derschow took home the young citizen of the year prize.
City Mayor Peter Long congratulated all the winners.

Citizen of the year: Sandra Spadanuda
Young citizen of the year: Pansy Derschow
Event/ activity of the year award: Dampier Billy Cart Derby
Community service award: Karratha Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service
Community spirit award: Stephen Clarke
Environmental award: Rose Best
