A passion and dedication to growing hockey in Karratha has seen Steve Cook awarded life membership of Nickol Bay Hockey Association.

Cook was given the honour at a presentation on the Bulgarra courts last month in recognition of his work on and off the field, including several stints as president. In a speech after accepting the life membership, Cook gave a nod to club volunteers.

“I was lucky enough to carry the Commonwealth Games baton the other day and I really felt I was carrying that for all the volunteers in this club,” he said.

“So on behalf of me and my family, this really means a lot to me. Thank you all and I look forward to playing with you all for free for the next 20 years.”

Club president Annabelle Little said the nomination was well deserved.

“He has done so much for this club in terms of constantly promoting and building this club, constantly creating teamwork and coaching throughout games,” he said.

“We are all a part of this club... but it wouldn’t be the same without him so we definitely love having Steve and his family a part of it.

“His sense of humour and leadership skills really are a boon to this club.”

Little said the club was looking ahead to another strong year, building on a successful 2017.
