Karratha Kats, Dampier Sharks, Port Hedland Rovers win in round 12 of the North Pilbara Football League

The Karratha Kats were a class above the Karratha Falcons, downing their cross-town rivals 15.4 (94) to 8.12 (60) in round 12 of the North Pilbara Football League at Millars Well Oval. The game took place on July 22 at the Kats’ home ground, with the Falcons taking it to the Kats in the opening quarter, controlling most of the action and locking the ball in their forward 50. Kats’ accuracy proved the difference with the side leading 4.0 to 3.4 at the fist break. The home side broke the game open in the second term, blasting 5.2 to the visitors’ 1.1 to hold a dominant position at half time. The Kats controlled the game in the second half despite the brave Falcons giving it their all. Charlie Fountain and Kevin Seelander both booted four goals for the Kats while Riese Wilkey kicked four for the Falcons The victory keeps the Kats eight points clear of the third placed Wickham Wolves with three rounds left of the regular season. In the second game of the round, Dampier Sharks continued their strong form, winning their 11th game of the season with a 38-point walloping of Wickham Wolves, 12.15 (87) to 6.13 (49). Wickham led the reigning premiers at quarter time 3.4 to 1.4 before the Sharks found their groove in the second term to hold a one point lead at the main break. The Sharks continued to tighten their grip on the game in the second half, kicking 3.2 in the third quarter while the Wolves managed just five behinds. Meanwhile, the struggling Port Hedland Rovers secured just their second win of the season, stunning the South Hedland Swans by 57 points, 15.8 (98) to 6.5 (41). Rovers controlled the action from bounce down, leading at every break on their way to an upset victory. They held a 26 point lead at the main break before blasting the South Hedland side away in the second half. It comes after the Swans were handed a 304 point drubbing by Dampier Sharks in round 11.
