Karratha Kats demolished the Crabs to take top spot in the West Pilbara Cricket Association T20 competition

The Karratha Kats have surpassed Nickol Hawks to gain top spot on the ladder in the last round before finals in the West Pilbara Cricket Association men’s T20 competition. The Kats took on Pegs Creek Crabs at Karratha Leisureplex where Daniel Carse and Brayden Lee got the boys in blue off to a fast start before Michael James and Patty Richards lifted the run rate. When the Crabs removed those two they were able to slow the runs and take regular wickets. The Kats ended their 20 overs on 7-107 with Aaron Faneco, James Falconer and Jordan Perkusich each getting two wickets. The Crabs lost two early wickets in their chase before Matt Smith and Perkusich steadied the ship. Once Perkusich was removed, the Kats bowlers stopped the run scoring, keeping the Crabs to 7-78 off their 20 overs. At Windy Ridge Oval, a Dampier derby saw Dampier Taverners 1 defeat Taverners 2. Taverners 2 started well with the ball getting three early wickets before Brandon Riddell and Jake Leahy steadied for Taverners 1. A late 20 runs from Craig Leknys got the Taverners 1 up to 7-155 off their 20 overs. Casey Moy and Jarvis Hurley were the star Taverners 2 bowlers. Taverners 1 got off to a perfect start with the ball with Riddell getting two wickets in the first over. Jesse Adams and Jarvis Hurley put some scoreboard pressure on the Taverners 1 bowlers, but it wasn’t enough as Taverners 2 made 7-106 off their 20 overs. The Wickham Wallabies travelled to Bulgarra to take on Rec Club where the Wallabies got off to a good start with Josh Miller getting 15. Rec Club kept the pressure on with the ball taking regular wickets with no other Wallabies batsman making double figures, leaving them bowled out for 65. The Wallabies started well with the ball, reducing Rec Club to 6-19 after nine overs. Bradley Beier made an important 13 before Brendan Kuiper steered Rec Club home with one wicket remaining. Deon Carr and Riley Brown were the pick of the Wallabies bowlers. In the final match, the Nickol Hawks played Baynton Lions with the Lions batting first. The Lions were reduced to 2-2 early on before Amol Virkar and Jignesh Patel steadied. Scores of 24 each from Nick Hegan and Shamsher Singh saw the Lions make 6-143 off their 20 overs. In the chase, Hawks’s Muhammad Uzair, Kamran Khan and Muhammad Khan all got out in the 20s and the Lions were able to hold on to win by one run.
