Kinsman and Phuttajuk take out Karratha Golf Clubs Foursomes in tight race

The final major golf competition for winter, the Karratha Foursomes, was held last weekend.

In a difficult format where players take turns hitting the ball, the teams of two compete for the stroke/net win over two days and 36 holes.

The men’s gross win was hotly contested, with two pairs tied on 161. It came down to a play-off on the 18th, and in a nailbiting finish, each pair had about a 3m putt for a birdie.

Missing by a whisker, Daniel Hyde and partner Michael Heap parred the hole, but Ben Robinson nailed his putt for the overall gross win with partner Chris Stewart for the men’s foursomes.

Leading the net on Saturday with 74, Craig Angus and Adam Laurent backed it up with a 72 on Sunday to win the men’s net with 146. Dave Turner and Martin Smith were runners-up with 147. Playing consistently all weekend, June Worsley and Beryl Lynn took out the ladies’ foursomes gross win with a score of 181 off the stick, 18 shots ahead of runners-up Chelsea Broun and Tracey Smyth on 199.

Saturday net scores were a mixed bag, with only two teams recording scores in the low 70s.

On Sunday, the team of Fiona Kinsman and Thipsiri Phuttajuk went 12 shots better, knocking it out of the park with a net 65.5, winning the overall ladies’ net by a clear four shots with 143.
