Leisureplex upgrade
Karratha Leisureplex may soon be set for a big face lift, with a $150,000 improvement study to bring additional shading, court enclosures and a master plan for further upgrades.
The City of Karratha appointed Perth-based firm Peter Hunt Architect as the preferred tenderer to deliver the design options.
A City spokesperson said the proposed upgrades included enclosing two of the six outdoor courts, as well as shade options to cater for afternoon sun affecting play on courts three, four, five and six.
“Regular refurbishments to the Karratha Leisureplex enhance patrons’ experience at the facility,” they said. “Peter Hunt Architect originally designed the Karratha Leisureplex and were appointed following a competitive tender process.”
The initial stage would also include the development of a master plan, various upgrade options and concept designs for further upgrades including a water slide, pool shading and seating, gymexpansion and equipment upgrades.
The City has allocated a further $400,000 from its long-term financial plan for the construction of major upgrades to the KLP, which are set to be delivered in stages over the next five years.
Since opening in 2013, the $63.7 million KLP has attracted more than 3.5 million visitors to its exercise, leisure and community facilities.
