LIVING HER DREAM

Exmouth’s Mim Strom has been living her dream this year.

The 18-year-old fulfilled a life- long goal of becoming a professional footballer earlier this year when she debuted for the Fremantle Dockers in their round one clash against Geelong.

Strom repeated her impressive form against the West Coast Eagles last week and was due to play in her side’s round three match-up against Collingwood over the weekend.

The 184cm star began her career at South Fremantle while still in Year 12, before moving into the Swan Districts’ league side last year.

Strom then headed to the AFLW draft combine in October before being drafted to the Dockers at pick 21.

Strom said at the start of last year, getting drafted wasn’t even on her mind, but after competing in State programs and the WAFL, it became something she hoped would happen.

“It’s pretty indescribable to be drafted to the Dockers, they’re such an amazing club and have been so open and welcoming,” she said.

“I’ve just been developing my skills.

“It’s a whole new game, and I’m embracing the club and learning everything I can to be the best I can be.”

Strom said it had been incredible to play in front of more than 35,000 fans in the Western Derby last week.

“People on and off the field were incredible, and it was very special to be part of the first-ever AFLW derby, of what I hope are many,” she said.

“It was great to be part of history, but even better that we got the win.

“Just being out there and showing the young girls that this is where you can be was a really special feeling.”

According to Strom, a hard and gruelling strength and conditioning coach had been paramount to getting the side fit and ready for the season.

“The ultimate goal would be for the team to win the premiership, but if not, then we want to do our best,” she said. “When you put on the jumper, you fight for every one of your teammates, and if we win, that’s amazing, but if we lose, I know we will be amazing and pull together as a club.”
