Detectives have charged a man with grievous bodily harm after finding his partner in a bloodied and almost “unrecognisable” state in their Roebourne home.

Police will allege the man, 30, severely beat the woman at the house on Friday, October 12, causing her to sustain serious facial injuries, including fractured cheekbones and broken teeth, and leg injuries.

She had to be flown to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment in intensive care after being stabilised at Karratha Health Campus, and was in and out of consciousness for most of last week.

West Pilbara Detective Senior Sergeant Carlos Correia said the victim had been lucky to survive given the extent of her injuries.

Her partner was charged shortly after the incident and faced court last week.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in Karratha Magistrate’s Court on November 6.
