Northern Spirit Warriors claim Karratha Basketball Association premiership with 10-point victory over Flames

Northern Spirit Warriors are the Karratha Basketball Associations Division 1 men’s winners after downing their rivals Flames division 1 Black by 10 points.

The Warriors flexed their muscles in the opening half of the grand final at the Karratha Leisureplex on April 2, running away with a big 16-point lead at the break.

The Warriors controlled the action in the opening term and continued to apply pressure in the second half to hold a a 17-point lead with just 11 minutes to go.

Flames refused to roll over, fighting back to cut the lead to just eight points with 30 seconds to go but it was too little, too late.

Warriors scored in quick succession and took the win 46-36.

Joel Lekias was named the MVP of the final for his 15-point haul for the Warriors.

In division 2 Roebourne’s RMSC Villagers took out the premiership after a hard-fought game against Northern Spirit Corps.

The Villagers ran away with the game in the first half, scoring at will to hold a 17-point lead at half-time.

Northern Spirit Corps refused to give up, firing back to trail by seven points with eight minutes to go.

The game went down to the wire with Villagers holding on to win by four points, 39-35.

Drew Woodley (18 points) and Ezekiel Williams (11 points) proved the difference for the RMSC Villagers, top-scoring for the team and powering the side to the four-point victory.

Daniel Hutton and Kenneth Catanghal top-scored for Northern Spirit Corps with eight points each.
