Have you caught a ruby job fish yet from the deep?

They are sensational eating and although it can be a mission at times to get one, it is worth the effort.

Crews chasing these fish are usually using squid for bait but mullet and blue mackerel are also popular baits.

Jigging for them is another option with some of the deepwater jigs available but make sure you have the right gear for the job, for it can be a challenge in deep water.

If you have never caught a dolphinfish before, now is the time to get out there and try. Reports from anglers say they are almost in plague proportions south of Tantabiddi.

Aside from marlin in the first six months, dolphinfish are the fastest growing fish in the ocean.

It is a common occurrence to see large schools of various species of tuna here, plus we have witnessed big schools of trevally in the gulf, and also cobia.

The water and weather have been sensational and Mother’s Day was a perfect opportunity to get some mums out on the water or to the beach for the day.

A group of mothers and kids walked the rocks at Pilgramunna to see a huge bluebone rummaging in the clear waters during the lead-up to high tide.

The Exmouth Game Fishing Club hosted the Masters fishing tournament over the weekend and 24 anglers aged over 50 hit the water for two days to chase billfish and other pelagic species.

Sadly the billfishing scene went a bit quiet with the drop in temperatures but they still managed to get four black marlin, four sailfish, some dolphinfish, wahoo, and yellowfin tuna.

One of the black marlin was estimated at 180kg by Peter Christie on Salty Dog.

The champion team was Our Time, while Champion Angler Marlin went to Brent Greenhow on Sailfish II and Champion Angler Sailfish went to Phil Bubner aboard On Strike II.

Heaviest other gamefish went to Chris King on Pussee Galore with a 9.15kg dolphinfish.
