Pegs Creek bat deep to smash Dampier in round 2 of West Pilbara Cricket Association 40 over competition

A rampant batting performance from Pegs Creek saw the side demolish Dampier Taverners by more than 130 runs in round two of the West Pilbara Cricket Association 40 over competition.

Winning the toss at Karratha Leisureplex on Saturday, Pegs Creek elected to bat.

They lost two early wickets and were struggling at 2-12.

Matt Smith and skipper Jordan Perkusich got the innings back on track with solid knocks of 22 and 83. The run rate lifted when Lochi Seabrook (64) and Aaron Faneco (89) came together, with both striking at more than two runs a ball. Pegs compiled a total of 9-300 off their 40 overs.

Bowling well for Dampier was young speedster Marcus O’Brien taking 3-22

Pegs started their bowling innings well, with tight lines restricting the Dampier team to 164 all out off 31 overs. Jimmy Maher scored 35, well supported by James Rowlands and Jayden Lagana, both scoring 29.

A stand-out performer with the ball for Pegs was Matt Smith, who took 3-6 with his crafty off spin.

The Wickham Wallabies hosted the Karratha Kats, with the Wallabies winning the toss and electing to bat first.

The Kats started well, taking three early wickets to leave the Wallabies at 3-29.

Craig Nunn (23) joined Jason Mallon (47) at the crease to push the Wallabies to 8-128 off their 20 overs, with Dayne Ferry and Josh Harper taking two wickets each.

The Wallabies started well with the ball to have the Kats at 3-39 before Shane Edwards (46) and Troy Webster (29) put the Kats in a winning position.

Meanwhile Pegs Creek 2 took on Rec Club with the Pegs’ new captain Ben Walkington winning the toss and batting first

Oliver Kot held off the Rec Club bowling attack for nearly 20 overs, showing determination and grit.

Tyler Hitching playing his first game for Pegs fought for more than 20 overs to allow the other Pegs batters to bat around him.

And that is exactly what Branden Wright did, taking the attack to Rec Club in top-scoring with 40 valuable runs, bringing the Pegs team total to 107. Pegs’ bowling innings could not have started any better with George McCarthy taking a wicket with his first ball and ending his spell with 1-33.

Jason Geikie was the Crabs’ best with the ball taking 2-30, with Boston Geikie also taking a wicket with his crafty leg spin.

Rec Club’s batting innings was clinical to chase the total down inside 21 overs.

Damien Lalor (39) controlled the chase well, along with with contributions from Liam O’Neill (20) and Bradley Beier (17) to take the game away from the Crabs.

The Nickol Hawks hosted the Baynton Lions with the Hawks winning the toss and batting first.

Hawk Karman Khan (77 not out) led the way as the Hawks made an imposing 9-248 with Amit Shah the pick of the Lions bowlers with three wickets.

The Lions’ batting did not start well with the Hawks grabbing three quick wickets to leave the Lions at 3-38.

Nick Hegan (26) and Dayanand Gawade (44) steadied the innings for the Lions but is was not enough as the Hawks restricted the Lions to 8-170.
