Pilbara children head back to school for 2019

The summer holidays are over for thousands of children across the Pilbara as students returned to school on Monday.

It’s an exciting time for them all, a chance to catch up with their friends and, for those in Year 1 and Year 7, the beginning of their primary and high school journeys.

Karratha Senior High School principal Jennifer McMahon said the possibilities were endless for what the school year might bring and gave some helpful advice to those embarking on both their first and last year of high school.

“Year 7s should ask questions, inquire, take the support offered, help each other and only settle for their very best,” she said.

“Don’t waste any time but enjoy it, work hard, achieve your absolute best and you will have choices and opportunities that you are in control of.”

With kids heading back to school, police are urging motorists to slow down in school zones.

Pilbara traffic officer-in-charge Grant Rosman said police will be out and about enforcing speed limits.

“Motorists need to be aware that the 40km/h limit does apply. It’s not a big imposition on them but it’s important for keeping the kids safe,” he said.
