Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman who allegedly stole a vehicle and crashed it into a home in Nickol this morning, as they appeal for witnesses to come forward.

It will be alleged the woman flagged down the driver of a silver Audi on Bayview Street about 8.40am and assaulted the 55-year-old woman, who had to be helped out of the car by pedestrians.

She then drove away before allegedly crashing the car several times into a house on Di Carlo Way in Nickol, causing extensive structural damage to the property.

The four people inside the house at the time escaped uninjured, after moving to the back of the property and jumping a neighbour’s fence to get away.

Among the occupants were a four-month-old baby and four-year-old girl.

Resident Kalten Guiness said it had been a frightening experience and the family had been lucky to escape after his sister-in-law and niece heard the car outside and raised the alarm.

“It happened so fast... the need to just run takes over,” he said.

“I’ll probably be having nightmares for the next few weeks.”

The Audi driver was injured in the car-jacking and has received medical treatment.

The alleged perpetrator has been charged with a string of offences including aggravated robbery, stealing a motor vehicle, reckless driving and criminal damage.

She is due to appear in the Karratha Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

Karratha Detectives are calling for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the incidents to contact them.
