Renovated supermarket serves up extra jobs

The newly renovated Coles store in Karratha reopened its doors last week, offering a variety of new services and creating additional jobs for local people.

Coles has put on an extra 10 staff and will look to recruit more Karratha locals.

Store manager Tim Lowe said the new roles were across various departments.

“The new employees will be mutli-skilled to offer a more meaningful employment,” he said.

“We’ve hired a new baker and there is another skilled baker coming, so we can soon go down the apprenticeship line.”

The renovations mean the store is also now able to offer a meat servery, ice tables, plus a bigger and better range for customers. “We’re really proud of the servery,” Mr Lowe said.

“Getting the customer to have an interaction with the butcher and see that we do still cut meat is really important.”

Coles Karratha is also starting to get behind the local community and presented a $2000 cheque to the Northern Spirit Basketball Club at the store reopening.

The club only launched in March and will use the funds for uniforms and training before the basketball season starts later this year.

Mr Lowe said Coles was really excited about getting more involved in the community.

“They’re the people who support us, so it’s us giving something back to the community and thanking them for choosing Coles,” he said.
