Taverners batters claw Crabs

Round 9 of the West Pilbara Cricket Association 40 over competition saw the Pegs Creek Crabs host the Dampier Taverners in a hotly contested match at the Karratha Leisureplex.

The Crabs batted first and got off to a good start thanks to a 100 run opening partnership between Oliver Kot 27 and Jordan Perkusich 78.

Once the Taverners broke the opening partnership they were able to keep taking wickets and restrict the runs as the Crabs were bowled out for 195 with Craig Leknys the pick of the bowlers with five for 35 off his eight overs.

The Taverners lost a couple of early wickets in their chase before Cody Bone, 43, and Brad Goes 48 steadied the Taverners innings.

Dan Harding then smashed 25 runs from 27 to see the Taverners home by three wickets with 10 balls remaining.

The Crabs Jordan Perkusich was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 38.

The Wickham Wallabies hosted the Nickol Hawks with the Hawks batting first and getting off to a fast start thanks to 75 runs from Ali Ishaq before 43 from Muhammad Uzair and a half century from Aziz Saghar were able to see the Hawks to a score of 6 for 211.

Wallabies bowler Nathan Kemp was the pick of the bowlers with 2-24. The Wallabies chase didn’t go well with the Hawks bowlers able to pick up consistent wickets with only Brooke Ball 18 reaching double figures as the Wallabies were rolled for 55. Kamran Khan 3-12 was the pick of the Hawks bowlers.

Rec Club took on the Baynton Lions with Rec Club batting first.

The Rec Club’s batting lineup got off to a shaky start with after the loss of an early wicket before Damien Lalor and Travis Scroop steadied the innings with 43 and 54 runs each to get the Rec Club to 6-162 off their 40 overs.

Shamsher Singh was outstanding for Baynton taking 3-8 off his 8 overs.

The Lions chase didn’t start well with the Rec Club bowlers were able to reduce the Lions to 7-45 before Ishan Arandara scored 81 not out to see the Lions get their first win of the 40 over season off the last ball of the innings with Richard Anderson the pick of the Rec Club bowlers with 2-12 off his 7 overs.
