A 15 year-old boy is in a critical condition after a motorcycle crash in Dampier on Wednesday night.

The boy was driving a motorbike near Robe Crescent at about 11pm when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a drainage ditch on the side of the road.

Karratha police, who attended the scene, believe the crash occurred after he hit a kangaroo.

St John Ambulance paramedics were dispatched and rushed the teenager to Nickol Bay Hospital for treatment.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said the boy had been in a lot of pain in his back, neck, ribs and stomach.

The boy remained in a serious condition this evening and has been transferred to Royal Perth Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service for further treatment.
