Ten per cent hike in Pilbara Ports January throughput, Dampier and Port Hedland imports decline

The Pilbara Ports Authority recorded a 10 per cent jump in its monthly throughput for January compared to the previous year.

The PPA announced on February 11 it delivered a total monthly throughput of 62.7 million tonnes for January.

The Port of Port Hedland achieved a 14 per cent increase with a monthly throughput of 48.6Mt, of which 48Mt was iron ore.

Meanwhile the Port of Dampier’s January throughput dropped by 4 per cent compared to January 2021 with a total of 13Mt.

Both facilities recorded drops in imports with Dampier Port reporting an 89 per cent decrease in imports compared to last January.

The Port of Dampier totalled 12,000 tonnes and the Hedland facility’s imports totalled 144,000 tonnes, a decrease of 17 per cent compared to January 2021.
