Training program expanded

Woodside has expanded its training program this year, as 71 new apprentices, trainees and pre-pathway trainees were welcomed to its Karratha Production Training Academy.

The move is set to stimulate local growth within the community as all 71 trainees and apprentices are residentially based, with 66 people already living locally.

The aim of the academy is to provide employment and training opportunity for local youth, helping them to gain the skills required for future careers in the mining sector.

Electrical apprentice Jarrod Renton said he was looking forward to turning his passion into a career.

“This apprenticeship means that I am able to start, what I hope to be a long-term career with Woodside, in an industry that I am extremely interested in, with a trade I am passionate about,” he said.

Karratha Gas Plant maintenance manager Aaron Bruce said he began his Woodside career as an apprentice and was looking forward to taking on so many locals.

This year’s intake included 19 apprentices and 52 trainees, taking the total number at the Karratha Gas Plant to 180.

The apprenticeship and trainee program is a partnership between Woodside, Programmed and North Regional TAFE.
