Three passengers aboard a boat were injured and had to be escorted back to land by a sea rescue crew after their vessel got into trouble in the Dampier Archipelago in the early hours of this morning.

The boat carrying four men collided with an unknown object off Enderby Island about 2am, prompting the crew to set off an EPIRB distress signal.

One passenger sustained serious injuries in the crash and two others received minor injuries, including lacerations.

The injured passengers were brought back to land by the Dampier Volunteer Sea Search and Rescue Group while the other man drove their own boat back.

A St John Ambulance crew conveyed the injured men to Karratha Health Campus for treatment.
