Wickham Wolves demolish South Hedland Swans to move into second on the North Pilbara Football League ladder

A rampant Wickham Wolves have given themselves some breathing space at second spot on the ladder with a 74-point win against the South Hedland Swans. The round eight North Pilbara Football League clash took place at Wickham Oval, with the Wolves determined to continue their winning form in front of the home crowd. A four-goal opening term left the visiting side stunned while the Wolves continued to circle their shell-shocked opponents. In the second quarter the Wolves continued to inflict punishment on the Swans as they extended the lead to 40 points at half-time on the back of another four-goal term. The Swans tried to rally in the third quarter but the Wolves quickly cut them down, booting five goals to storm to a 59-point lead going into the final break. Any suggestion of the Wolves running out of steam in the final quarter was quickly quashed with the home side locking the ball in their attacking 50 for most of the term. Wickham Wolves defeated South Hedland Swans 18.10 (118) to 6.8 (44). Wolves’ Tyson Nicholas booted five goals while teammates Daniel Montague and Cameron Cross kicked three and two respectively. Swans’ Kevin Geary was the top goal kicker for his side with two goals. The win moved the Wolves to second on the ladder with 20 points, one game clear of the Karratha Kats. In the reserves, a seven-goal haul from Jeremy Regan powered the Wolves to a 65-point victory over the Swans. The Wolves led by 39 points at the main break and never looked back, overrunning their opponents in the second half to lope to an easy victory. The final score was Wolves 16.7 (103) to 6.2 (38).
