Women aged 40 years and over invited to have a free screening mammogram with BreastScreen WA in Roebourne

Women aged 40 years and over are invited to have a free screening mammogram when a mobile clinic comes to Roebourne later this month. BreastScreen WA’s mobile clinic will be available at Roebourne District hospital from September 24 to 29. BreastScreen WA medical director Dr Elizabeth Wylie said screening mammography was the most effective method for early detection of breast cancer. “Screening every two years is vitally important to increase the chance of a breast cancer being detected when it is too small to feel or be noticed,” she said. “Finding a cancer at this early stage often means that the breast cancer is small and more treatable. “Breast screening saves lives and only takes 20 minutes.” Breast cancer is the most common life threatening cancer for women, with one in seven women in Australia developing breast cancer in their lifetime.
