Adams' the new Shire chief

Pilbara Cities general manager Chris Adams will take on the position of Shire of Roebourne chief executive in September.

Mr Adams resigned from his Pilbara Cities role last Tuesday and will replace Collene Longmore, who was sacked by the Shire earlier this year.

He will continue to work at the Pilbara Cities office until his new position starts.

Previously, Mr Adams has held chief executive positions at the Town of Port Hedland and the Shire of Wyndham, but said he would not come into the new role with preconceived ideas from those positions.

“There are some elements that are transferrable across all local governments because it is a statutory body, but each local government’s different,” he said.

“So my intent is not to come in there with pre-conceived ideas about how to change or fix the Shire of Roebourne – the Shire of Roebourne’s going pretty well at the moment.

“There will be opportunities to tweak some things and change a few things in consultation with the councillors and the staff, but (the position is) a huge opportunity and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Mr Adams said he looked forward to building on the progress the Shire had made in recent years and was excited to become more involved with the transformation of the Shire.

“I’d worked in local government for 16 years and probably thought I’d done enough of it, but this opportunity’s one I couldn’t turn down,” he said.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said he was disappointed to see Mr Adams leave.

However, he paid tribute to the man he installed as Pilbara Cities’ inaugural boss.

“I’ve taken credit for a lot of the good work he has done,” Mr Grylls said.

“Chris has made an enormous contribution, above and beyond a true leader.

“I am disappointed he is leaving but he is still going to be in the Pilbara and he is still going to have a major leadership role.”
