Australia Day: Bowl for your country

Pilbara News

Australia is getting ready to battle the rest of the world next Thursday as the annual Australia Day bowls competition gets under way.

The competition begins at 3pm and people are encouraged to wear an outfit related to their country. Karratha Bowls Club co-ordinator Lynda Giles said the event was good fun every year.

“Just rock up on the day and we’ll put everyone in teams according to their nationality,” she said.

An Australian barbecue will be held after the competition.

Giles was hopeful of a bigger event than last year after tropical cyclone Bianca cut short the match mid-way through the competition.

Last year there was plenty of contention over the final result and the same argument will be expected again this year.
