The festival that bought us Aussie emcee Illy, former Grinspoon frontman Phil Jamieson and the crazy stage antics of Regurgitator, has announced it will be back to Karratha over two big days in 2016.

More than 1500 locals turned out to Beats in the Heat Festival earlier this year, to see some of the biggest names in Australian hip hop and rock n’ roll spread across two big stages at the Karratha Leisureplex.

Festival organiser Bart Parsons said this year Beats in the Heat would return to the Leisureplex on June 24-25 for a huge weekend of music and camping.

“We will be moving the event onto the main oval at the Karratha Leisureplex and expending to two nights, with a low key acoustic night Friday and the full festival on Saturday,” he said.

“This year we are focusing on making it a weekend experience to get more people from out of town.

“We will incorporate a large section of car camping for the event adjacent to the oval.”

Mr Parsons remained tight-lipped on the potential line-up but did give away there would be at least one international act at next year’s show.

“Next year we will be looking for artists who have not played in either Karratha or Port Hedland within the past 3 years or have released a new album since playing either of these two towns,” he said.

“We will also be looking for artists who will be on cycle anywhere from February-May or who have had top 10 singles within the past 12 months.

“We will split the acts amongst hip hop, rock and dance acts and will be involving local DJ’s and schools again, there will be something for everyone at Beats in the Heat.”
