The Blue Dog movie will be released on Boxing Day 2016 and will be preceded by the biggest marketing campaign of all Australian movies next year.

Producer Nelson Woss announced the set release date after giving the crowd at the CEDA conference a chance to relive the Red Dog movie last week

“(The Blue Dog movie) tells a chapter of your history before mining was the biggest industry in the region, ” he said. “It has a very strong indigenous subplot.”

It is intended to once again premiere the film in the Pilbara, as was done with Red Dog.

Mr Woss said the story of Red Dog was one everyone could relate to and the prequel would once again put the Pilbara on the world stage.

“The real Red Dog was inclusive; it didn’t matter if you ran a mining company or drove a train, ” Mr Woss said.

“He treated everyone the same and bought the community together.”

“The spotlight will be on the Pilbara region and I think there is a real opportunity to take advantage of that.

Mr Woss said he was setting up a Red Dog website to promote tourism, the movie and the real Red Dog. He also announced intentions to set up a roving exhibition with many of the movie props displayed at visitor centres in the Pilbara, and maybe one day finding a permanent home in the region.
