Bold women to go bald for charity

KIRSTY MUGRIDGEPilbara News

Losing your hair can be an uncomfortable reality for cancer sufferers, but two Karratha ladies have decided to take theirs off for charity.

Stacey Thomas and Rebecca Schmidt are shaving their heads to raise money for Breast Cancer Care WA.

When Ms Thomas’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer she instantly turned to her good friend Ms Schmidt.

“Rebecca was one of the first people I turned to when I received the news from my mum back in 2010,” she said.

Now Ms Schmidt has promised to continue her support even further by shaving her head alongside her friend.

“It is also a cause that is very close to her heart as a close friend and family member have been affected by breast cancer in different ways,” Ms Thomas said.

“It is a hard thing to watch your loved ones go through this and we are just so glad that there are all these wonderful organisations available to us if we should ever need them.”

Breast Cancer Care WA provides personalised emotional, practical and financial support to people affected by breast cancer.

The big shave will happen on March 23 at Life and Soul gym and everyone is invited to come and witness the event.

Donations can be made at various locations around town including Muffin Break, Just Jeans, Life and Soul gym and Elephant Juice.
