Spirit Radio Karratha and Thrifty Car and Truck Rental are doing their bit to help hungry West Australians this holiday season by collecting food for not-for-profit organisation Foodbank WA.

With more than 7000 West Australians turned away from charities empty handed because of a lack of food, Foodbank aims to reduce that number by providing meals to charities and schools across Australia.

For the second year in a row, Spirit Radio Karratha conducted their Foodbank Christmas Charity Tour, in which the team hosted live broadcasts and set up food collection boxes in locations around the City of Karratha.

Spirit Radio announcers Angie Ayers and Pablo Miller kicked of the tour with a massive 12-hour marathon broadcast at Karratha City Shopping Centre on Thursday, November 10.

Over the following week, Ms Ayers hosted six more live broadcasts at Profleet, JSS Logistics, Cozco Electrical, Adventure Sports, Chicken Treat and the Karratha Visitor Centre.

Ms Ayers thanked all their location partners and said she was overwhelmed by the city’s generosity.

“People don’t bring one or two cans like you would expect, they bring one or two bags,” she said.

“It’s amazing to sit back and see the amount of food that we collected and know that’s it going directly to help people who will be most vulnerable this Christmas.”

From November 28-December 16, Thrifty will be running the Thrifty Foodbank Holiday appeal to collect non-perishable goods for Foodbank WA.

People can donate by dropping food in the collection box at their local Thrifty outlet.

Most wanted items include canned tuna, soup, ham, vegetables, soup and spaghetti, black tea bags and pasta sauce.
