A Tom Price businesswoman has been named as a finalist for the Telstra Western Australia Business Women’s Awards.

Sarah Kemp is the chief executive of Nintirri, a not-for profit organisation with 30 employees across four services including Little Gecko’s childcare centre, Nintirri Neighbourhood Centre, and a domestic violence counselling and prevention service and a women’s health service.

Ms Kemp found out she was a finalist last week and said she was surprised by the announcement.

“It’s really exciting to receive that kind of recognition,” she said.

Ms Kemp said the awards were an opportunity for Nintirri and Tom Price to gain Statewide recognition and it would create more positive prospects for the town.

“It’s a good opportunity, regardless of the outcome,” she said.

“There are a lot of gaps in Tom Price in terms of services.

“I’m really trying to grow Nintirri and this will open doors and funding to allow me to do that.”

The awards are aimed at recognising business women who are leading, innovating, and mentoring the next generation.

It provides an opportunity for career analysis and self-development, new business opportunities and network expansion.

“For 19 years we’ve run the awards to inspire leading businesswomen to realise their potential and celebrate their success,” she said.

“We believe the 2013 Western Australia finalists are entrepreneurs, innovators and managers who can inspire our nation and the following generation.”

Winners of the 2013 Telstra Western Australia Business Women’s Awards will be announced on Friday, September 27, in Perth.
