Detectives are investigating a double car fire in a Karratha suburb over the weekend as a suspected case of arson.

Two cars caught fire in the driveway of a house in Calliance Way in Baynton in the early hours of Sunday, June 5.

Both vehicles were completely destroyed.

There was no damage to the property other than minor smoke damage.

West Pilbara Detectives are investigating the cause of the fires and believe they were due to criminal activity rather than faulty electrics.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jon Munday said evidence collection was difficult because of the severity of fire damage and urged people with any information to call the detectives or Crime Stoppers.

He said car fires were out of the ordinary for Karratha and concerning, especially because the vehicles had been parked in the carport close to the property where residents were sleeping.
